This replacement dwelling explores a contemporary interpretation of the rural Warwickshire vernacular, drawing on the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement without reproducing a traditional house. A strong clay-tiled roof, deep eaves and exposed rafter tails give the building a familiar rural character, while blended red brick, timber cladding and carefully proportioned openings provide warmth, texture and a sense of permanence.

Craft is expressed through the details: traditional tumbling brickwork, a subtle diamond motif formed within the brickwork of the chimney, a brick ventilation screen and a timber-framed entrance canopy. These familiar techniques are deliberately simplified and reinterpreted to create something distinctly contemporary. Solar panels are incorporated into the south-west roof, allowing environmental performance to form part of the architecture rather than appearing as an afterthought.

The result is intended to feel rooted rather than retrospective: a modern family home informed by local materials, craftsmanship and rural building traditions, but developed as a new architectural language for contemporary living.
