Architects in Stratford-upon-Avon

‘We had spoken to a number of architects about our building plans. When we approached Jonathan we were impressed by the very strong grasp and understanding he had of our aims and from this the ideas he had to translate this into a design proposal, exploring the limits of what could be achieved . Developing the 'art of the possible' within the complexities of the planning system was a particular strength, when it seemed the aims may otherwise have proven unachievable.
Jonathan was extremely good at helping guide us through the constraints and challenges of the proposed build, despite which he delivered design options and a finished proposal that finally enabled us to obtain planning permission whilst meeting those aims we first articulated.
It was a pleasure to work with Jonathan and his consultative open and honest approach. The level of communication and discussion throughout was excellent.’

Design and Planning in Stratford-on-Avon

Stratford-on-Avon District covers a particularly varied planning landscape, from Stratford-upon-Avon’s historic town centre to rural villages, open countryside and replacement dwelling sites.

Alongside the adopted Core Strategy, many settlements have their own Neighbourhood Development Plans, meaning local character, settlement form and village-specific policies can be important considerations. Rural and edge-of-settlement proposals often require careful assessment of landscape impact, scale, planning history and the relationship between existing and proposed built form.

The District also places clear emphasis on climate change and sustainable design, with climate change checklists required for many applications. Conservation Areas, listed buildings, Ecology and landscape constraints are also common.

For us, successful planning in Stratford District is about understanding these overlapping layers early and allowing them to shape the architectural response, rather than applying a generic design solution to every site.
